Indigenous-led Struggles for Justice in Guatemala Need Your Support
Contribute to Oli and Maisie's May Match Goal!
We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
Hello!
We are Maisie and Oli, current and past accompaniers with NISGUA who have our homebase on Lenni Lenape land in Philadelphia, PA.
If you are one of the lucky receivers of our periodic email updates, we hope that you have gotten the sense that our dedication to Guatemalan people is extremely integrated into our dedication to community organizing in the states. We think it bears repeating that we do not send y’all NISGUA-related emails as a way to recruit you into our niche activist corner. Instead, the reason we feel aligned asking for your support is because this work is less about advancing a specific organization and more about the regional impacts of building solidarity from the U.S. directly to Central American peoples.
Your support matters because:
- As a lot of the world tips into fascism, and despair is the easiest thing to reach for, Guatemalan organizers challenge us to do something else. Having endured and organized despite centuries of colonization, genocide, and mounting climate change, Guatemalan organizers - specifically Indigenous organizers - have unparalleled wisdom and perspective on the future.
- A lot of us are probably feeling anger and grief about US migration policy. International solidarity between communities is a way to refuse that our governments be the only avenue for relationship between us and people in Central America. By supporting the presence of international accompaniment, you are joining a network whose interest and energy shows to Guatemalans that there are people in the US who give a sh*t about them.
- From having the honor to work with and learn from Guatemalan organizers, we've come to see that survival, freedom, and dignity are not destinations but practices that we have to learn from one another. By supporting NISGUA, you continue a 40-year legacy of practicing survival, freedom, and dignity hand in hand with survivors of U.S. imperialism.
- For us, movement fundraising is a constant exchange. We know you all are doing your part in different places to create change. We’re asking you to support us doing our solidarity work, and in return we welcome invitations to support your granito de arena (grain of sand).
NISGUA is a small organization. While its network is vast, its budget is not. The organization depends on individual donations to sustain its work. Please make a donation that would be meaningful to you today to support international solidarity with Indigenous leaders and environmental activists in Guatemala. Can you donate $10, $25, $50, $100, or more? During the month of May, every dollar is matched - now is the best time to contribute!
much love,
Mais & Oli
