Support Land Protectors and Genocide Survivors
--for human rights and justice--
We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
Thanks for your interest in NISGUA’s work for social and environmental justice. I worked on NISGUA staff for 8 years and am an ongoing contributor. Here's why I support NISGUA.
I recently visited the lush green lands of Eastern Guatemala, where Xinka Indigenous communities are defending their lands from a silver mine that has polluted waterways, toppled homes, and blocked access to sacred sites. In the above photo, members of the Community Scientist Youth Group are monitoring water quality at the Ayarza Lake.
Xinka Parliament leaders declare: “We will defend the land and water even if we have to give up our lives.” They emphasize that NISGUA is their a steadfast ally. This is one reason why I honor and support NISGUA.
At a broader level, NISGUA accompanies Guatemalan environmental protectors and genocide survivors who are under threat for their work for justice and self-determination. This work includes providing international accompaniment to dissuade human rights violations; facilitating connections between similarly impacted communities; organizing campaigns against violence in Central America; and mobilizing people for urgent actions when our partners are threatened or attacked. In 2022, NISGUA co-coordinated a delegation of US Congresspeople to Central America to explore the root causes of migration. For all these reasons I honor and support NISGUA!
This May, a group of dedicated donors have pledged to match gifts to NISGUA. Please join me today to double your impact for a more just world!
