NISGUA has helped OSSGUA grow as people and as an organization, and create deep connections with partner organizations in Guatemala. We recognize that our work as a solidarity organization is deeply tied to their work building long term and accountable networks of solidarity between the U.S. and Guatemala. We are deeply grateful for the connection that we have, and the ways that they have allowed us to learn and grow. Grassroots fundraising is incredibly important to grow this movement! This is a crucial moment and every dollar counts. Between May 15 and May 31, 2020, all donations received up to $50,000 will be matched dollar for dollar! Oberlin Students in Solidarity with Guatemala (OSSGUA) is a student organization that stems from an organization in the Oberlin Community called the Santa Elena Project of Accompaniment (SEPA). SEPA has historically financially supported NISGUA accompaniers, many of whom have graduated from Oberlin College, and were members of our student group, OSSGUA. Every year OSSGUA organizes and leads a delegation of students to Guatemala to learn about the Internal Armed Conflict, historical memory and ongoing struggles. For the past 10 years that this delegation has taken place, we have developed a relationship with NISGUA, among many other community organizations. In fact, many students involved in OSSGUA during their time at Oberlin have continued their work in solidarity with activists in Guatemala by working for NISGUA as human rights accompanists.
