So — what is NISGUA?

NISGUA is a U.S.-based organization that has spent 45 years standing with Indigenous communities and human rights defenders in Guatemala. They document repression, amplify voices that are being silenced, and build the kind of long-term internationalist solidarity that doesn't disappear when the news cycle moves on.

For 45 years — through military dictatorships, massacres, and decades of impunity — NISGUA has never walked away. That kind of commitment is rare. And right now, the communities they stand with still need that presence:

• Communities are fighting to protect their land from extractive industries
• Genocide survivors are still seeking justice
• Human rights defenders and journalists face real threats every day

• Comunidades luchan por proteger su territorio frente al extractivismo
• Sobrevivientes del genocidio siguen buscando justicia
• Personas defensoras de derechos humanos y periodistas enfrentan amenazas reales cada día
