Support Justice and Human Rights
Forging Solidarity Across Borders for a Better World!
Another world is possible...
Even when violence, corruption, and greed dominate the headlines, our partners in Guatemala choose to live another way: centered in community, striving for the common good, standing up for justice, respecting nature, and finding joy.
Solidarity involves walking alongside, sharing stories and resources, and uplifting our common causes. This has been the focus of NISGUA (the Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala) since it formed in 1981 at the height of the genocide against Maya peoples. I worked on NISGUA's staff for 8 years and continue to collaborate on their campaigns.
NISGUA supports groundbreaking genocide trials, most recently during 99 days of hearings. These cases are near and dear to my heart, as survivors pursue justice against the masterminds of the crimes that killed my would-be mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and three sisters-in-law, the youngest barely 9 months old.
NISGUA trains international human rights volunteers to dissuade human rights violations; accompanies environmental protectors and activists who are under threat for their work for justice and self-determination; and facilitates connections between similarly impacted communities. NISGUA recently cowrote an in-depth, three-part “Seeds of Life” series about ongoing struggles for justice, land, and human rights. In September, I worked with NISGUA’s “Memory and Resistance” delegation and experienced firsthand the power of sharing stories, struggles, and strategies across borders and movements.
This May, a group of dedicated donors have pledged to match gifts to NISGUA. Please join me today to double your impact for a more just world! Thank you!
