This year marks three years since I have joined NISGUA, as an associate board member. In 2022, a fabulous comrade invited me into the NISGUA community and opened my world to the radical and beautiful possibilities of internationalism, defense of territory, and grassroots organizing.
I am incredibly proud and moved by the work of our handful of staff members, accompaniers, and partners. In 2023, I accompanied our Trans-Territorial delegation. It was an experience that opened my eyes and heart to how social movements can come together, learn from one another, and build community through active listening and mentorship. These lessons are undoubtedly resonant today.
NISGUA’s mission isn’t only about standing in solidarity with grassroots organization in Guatemala. It’s also about understanding how we can learn from grassroots organizing abroad and harness those skills in our own lives and communities.
