I need your help... After two years working with NISGUA, I have become more convinced than ever that grassroots organizing with people's justice movement's is the path to life and dignity for all. I have also learned that it's very financially precarious to be a small grassroots organization. Over 90% of NISGUA's donations come from individual donors. This allows us to be accountable to the people of Guatemala, instead of governments or corporations, but we're always in a tough financial position as a result. Please help me, and NISGUA, continue doing our work another year by donating today!

NISGUA is an international, grassroots human rights organization that accompanies Guatemalan water and land protectors and genocide survivors who are under threat as a result of their fight for justice. Our work includes: Providing international accompaniment in trials and resistance camps to dissuade violence; facilitating connections between communities similarly impacted by colonialism through delegations and exchanges; organizing campaigns against violent U.S. foreign policy and corporate plunder in Central America; mobilizing people for urgent actions if our partners are threatened or attacked; and thoughtful political education about Guatemala and the region.

I believe in our work, and I ask that you believe in me by donating to NISGUA. From May 15-31, a small group of donors pledged to match all gifts up to $50,000, which would total $100,000. This is ONE THIRD of our entire annual budget.

I've been busy at NISGUA over the last year. In July, 2023, I helped organize NISGUA's Encuentro Trans-Territorial, a three-day gathering with a dozen organizations at the front-lines of Indigenous land defense, post-war transitional justice, migrant justice, and international solidarity. After days of inspiring political strategizing and alliance building, I left energized for an uncertain future. And uncertain it was.

From October-January, our team worked tirelessly to support the Indigenous-led, 106-day national strike to stop an attempted cou - the coup was eventually defeated! From the U.S., I supported actions from the Guatemalan migrant diaspora, like public vigils, or advocacy to Guatemalan Consulates; I worked with other organizations to lobby major international institutions to help defend Guatemalan democracy; I collaborated with friends to interview Indigenous leaders of the strike for what turned out to be the only English language publication about that crisis that centered the voices of Indigenous peoples themselves (Seeds of Life: Guatemala Beyond Elections).

This is the type of work I need your help to continue doing!
