$7,325 towards $7,500

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page in support of Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA)!

By making a gift today you will fund our migration justice campaign against expulsions of asylum seekers. You will sustain accompaniment of Indigenous Maya genocide survivors as they seek justice. And you will ensure that NISGUA can continue sharing information about what is happening on the ground in Guatemala.

Now is the time to give. Between May 15th and May 31st, all donations up to $50K will be matched dollar for dollar by a small group of generous donors. Together, we can raise $100K in honor of NISGUA's 40th anniversary!

What will your gift support?

  • International accompaniment - We are excited to say that we have began a mixed in-person accompaniment model and continue expanding our accompaniment program! During the pandemic, we adjusted to a remote accompaniment model. Moving further into the digital space allowed us to broaden our opportunities for virtual accompaniment from anywhere in the world. Today, we are able to combine the lessons of virtual accompaniment with 40 years' experience of physical accompanied. Read more about our year of remote accompaniment here.
  • Cross-border organizing - NISGUA facilitates exchange between movements in the U.S. and Guatemala through virtual meetings, webinars, speaking tours, and delegations. In March, we welcomed a delegation from the U.S. Congress to Guatemala to learn more about the root causes of migration and what the U.S. can do to change to a right-based approach to immigration and foreign policy. Read some thoughts from our team here.
  • Campaign development - While Guatemala is experiencing serious regression in democracy and rule of law (read more here and here), the start of 2022 has been marked with historic advancements in transitional justice cases, including the prosecution of a former chief of military operations for genocide and prosecution nine former military officers for their involvement in the enforced disappearance and torture of over 180 persons from 1983 to 1985. NISGUA has diligently accompanied and observed these proceedings, and reported on the important organization of the petitioners and victims to achieve justice for their loved ones.
  • Relationship-building with Guatemalan partners - Staff and volunteers maintain regular contact with our Guatemalan counterparts who are fighting for justice and defending their territories. What we learn from our partners informs every other strategy we employ. Learn more here.

Even a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala, and every gift made, up to $50,000 will be matched, dollar-for-dollar! Thank you!

What does NISGUA do? Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA) accompanies Guatemalan water protectors and genocide survivors who are under threat for their political work. We use accompaniment to dissuade violence, we connect partners in Guatemala with folks in the U.S. who are similarly impacted by colonialism, we organize campaigns against the United States’ bloody foreign policy and corporate violence in Central America, and we mobilize people for urgent actions if our partners are threatened or attacked.
