As former staffers of NISGUA, we know just how far your donations go towards building grassroots internationalism.

Some of you have been hearing from Bridget about NISGUA and Guatemalan social movements since she joined as a GAP volunteer in 2006, or from David since they became a GAP accompanier in 2014. As former staff who are continuing members and supporters of the network, we have a combined 24 years of experience working closely with this decades-strong project and the grassroots groups and community leaders whose organizing it supports. Over and over again, this experience has taught us how critical grassroots internationalism is to our social movements here in the US, and to our collective aspirations for a just and liberated world beyond colonial borders. We have also learned just how much can be leveraged through grassroots donations that allow organizations like NISGUA to focus on the work that is politically important to the network and its partners.

Here's a little bit about what your donation will help make possible:

  • International accompaniment - After 2+ years of remote accompaniment, NISGUA recently re-opened its Guatemala City office and is welcoming new and returning volunteers to provide in-person accompaniment to grassroots groups fighting unjust resource extraction and impunity for perpetrators of US-backed genocide.
  • Trans-territorial organizing - NISGUA facilitates exchange between movements in the U.S. and Guatemala through virtual meetings, webinars, speaking tours, and delegations. Most recently, they hosted a webinar series centering Indigenous experiences of migration and welcomed Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Corie Bush, and Rep. Jamaal Bowman, as well as representatives from the offices of Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Rep. Chuy García to Guatemala to learn about the real root causes of forced migration.
  • Relationship-building with Guatemalan partners - Staff and volunteers maintain regular contact with our Guatemalan counterparts who are fighting for justice and defending their territories. What we learn from our partners informs every other strategy we employ. Learn more here.

Can you help us resource this small and mighty organization?

Long Live International Solidarity!
